Be careful what you wish for ARCO

This photo was taken at the ARCO station at the corner of Gower and Franklin in Hollywood. Last time I checked the signs at this station, regular unleaded was going for $4.49 a gallon. It occurs to me that it might benefit ARCO to suspend this ad campaign. Of course, I take the bus to work 90 % of the time so I don't really care what they do. I'm just sayin'...

I remember when ARCO "busted" their company credit cards back in the 80s, and they had all these TV ads where their credit cards were exploding. Immediately thereafter, the price of gas at Eugene, OR ARCO stations dropped to 50 cents a gallon. Ma and Pa kept going to Shell and Texaco, where they still had company credit cards.

Apparently, ARCO is still using the same marketing campaign they used in the middle 1980s. Despite this stagnancy, they are still in business.

I remember those exploding credit ARCO card ads. Apparently Mom has boycotted ARCO ever since they were "mean to Dave" way back when. She didn't specify the nature of the meanness.
